Black History Month Events at York University
As noted by Rhonda Lenton and Sheila Cote-Meek, Black History Month (BHM) is an important opportunity to recognize the contributions, achievements, and histories of our Black community members. The EDIB Team would like to highlight these BHM events and displays happening at YUL and York University for increasing our knowledge and understanding of Black History.
- Black History Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, a month-long event jointly organized by YUL, U of T Libraries, X University Library, and Toronto Public Library.
- Feb 19 @ 2-3pm: Book Talk: Virtual Discussion | “The Black Race” by Ho Chi Minh
A panel discussion of the book: The Black Race by Ho Chi Minh and Selected Works on Systemic Racism, compiled by Dai Trang Nguyen and edited by Luis Silva (New Vietnam Publishing, Toronto, 2021). The panel will include an academic on Black Studies, the editor of the book, and the author.
- Feb 22 @ 12-1:15pm: "Why Black History (Month) Matters"
A panel discussion featuring current Black faculty members and graduate scholars presented by FGS, moderated by Thomas Loebel, Dean & Associate Vice-President Graduate.
